1:16[SOT: Well you know, I’m gonna tell you something. Anytime you’re black and you play a slave a gay person or somebody mentally ill, you’re gonna get nominated.]
That’s DL Hughley giving his take on this year’s Oscars and the whole Best Picture mishap… and of course he had a pretty funny point of view.
00:50[SOT: So it went from a largely white movie to a largely black movie.
You’re talking about swinging the other way now. I guess the Oscars are America’s way of saying I’m sorry to black people for Trump.]
Then we asked him about last year’s Oscar’s compared to this years… because in case you forgot, the hashtag Oscars So White was an actual thing.
1:44[SOT: Do you think there was some of that? Some reaction from last year?

Making up for it, overcompensating.
I think sometimes, just like in a ball game, you complain to the ref enough, he’ll give you a call.]
But when we started talking about movies with him, he gave his two cents on Manchester By the Sea versus Fences.
2:04[SOT: Fences was unbelievable for me.
And I saw Manchester by the Sea and it made my eyes bleed. It was the most boring movie I ever seen.
You know something? It was boring for you? I liked Manchester by the Sea. I enjoyed it. I liked it, it was very subtle—
Subtle like dead people are subtle.]
Either way, he was happy Moonlight won best picture but he doesn’t think it will change the black communities take on homosexuality.
But it sure was nice to hear what he had to say.
