OCALA, FLORIDA — An Ocala, Florida man has been arrested for allegedly plotting to bomb 10 Target retail stores along the east coast of the U.S in a bid acquire cheap stocks of the company.
Federal authorities allege that suspect Mark Barnett paid a man $10,000 to plant the bombs, reported The Orlando Sentinel, citing a federal complaint. Barnett allegedly gave him 10 explosives, a bag of gloves, a license plate cover and a mask to help with his plan.
The explosives were allegedly disguised in food packaging and the man was paid to plant the bombs in store shelves, reported ClickOrlando.com, citing the criminal complaint. However the man came forward to authorities before the plan was executed.
Barnett, a registered sex offender, had hoped to purchase cheap Target stock following the bombing, reckoning it would eventually rebound. He faces 10 years in federal prison if convicted.
