The Democrats are reportedly trying to lobby Ivanka Trump to help generate support for legislation involving paid family leave.
According to The Hill, Representative Carolyn Maloney (D-NY-12) who is sponsoring the bill, said about Ivanka, “I did call her, I did send her a copy of the legislation...She said she was interested in meeting with us and talking to us about it.”
However, Maloney added, “She has not gotten back to me. She is very busy, I'm sure, but I did reach out to her and (hope) we have an opportunity to speak and explore it more.”
Her bill is called the Federal Employees Paid Parental Leave Act which FEDweek states "would allow federal employees to take six weeks of paid leave for the birth or adoption of a child."
In the past, Ivanka has expressed strong interest in areas covering women's issues and chid care.
During an interview with CBS' '60 Minutes,' when asked about her role in Trump administration, she noted, “I'm going to be a daughter. But I've said throughout the campaign that I am very passionate about certain issues. And that I want to fight for them.”
Ivanka also said, “Wage equality, childcare. These are things that are very important to me. I’m very passionate about education. Really promoting more opportunities for women. So, you know there are a lot of things that I feel deeply, strongly about. But not in a formal administrative capacity.”
