Festivalgoers donned helmets and other protective gear when faced with a fireworks display in southern Taiwan on Saturday, February 11.
This drone footage shows the launch of rocket forts, which lit up the night sky over Tainan city. The Yanshuei Fireworks Festival, traditionally held on the Chinese Lantern Festival, was not all fun and games – at least six people were injured.
The ceremony was originally held to ward off evil spirits that local residents believed caused a cholera epidemic in the Yanshui district in later 1800s, according to a Taiwanese travel website. Credit: YouTube/Jonas Cachau-Herreillat via Storyful
