Humayun's Tomb, the best Places to visit in Delhi
Humayun's Tomb of the great Mughal emperor Nasiruddin Muhammad Humayun, popularly known as ‘Humayun ka Makbara’ is situated in Delhi. Humayun was the second king of Mughal Dynasty who ascends to the throne after Zahiruddin Muhammad Babur in 1530. Unlike other Mughal emperor, Humayun did not build anything noteworthy and his "Humayun's" tomb was built by his wife Hamida Banu Begum.
Built in the 15th century, Humayun’s Tomb was commissioned by Humayun’s son Akbar in 1569-70 and designed by Mirak Mirza Ghiyas, a Persian architect chosen by his wife Hamida Banu Begum. It was the first garden-tomb on the Indian subcontinent and is located in central Delhi, near Nizamuddin. It was the first structure to use red sandstone at such a scale.
Besides the main tomb of Humayun, several smaller monuments dot the pathway leading up to it, from the main entrance in the west, is the tomb of Isa Khan Niyazi, an Afghan noble in Sher Shah Suri’s court, who faught against Mughals. Bu Halima’s Tomb & garden, Nila Gumbad, Nai Ka Makbara etc. are the monuments inside the complex.
The complex encompasses the main tomb of the emperor Humayun, which have more than 100 graves within, several of them are on the first level terrace, known as ‘Dormitory of the Mughals’. Hamida Begum, Dara Shikoh son of Emperor Shah Jahan as well as numerous other subsequent Mughals are buried there.
It was notably the first garden-tomb on the Indian subcontinent with beautiful causeways and water channels. The tomb’s concept of eight side chambers symbolizes the Islamic concept of paradise. The building introduced a distinctive combination of red sandstone and white marble. Humayun’s tomb earned the status of being a landmark in the expansion of Mughal architecture.

Humayun's Tomb Tickets: An Indian national has to pay Rs. 30 as an entry fee for the monument and foreigners have to pay Rs. 500 for visit. Entry ticket is free for senior citizen and children below 15 years. There is no charges for the personal camera, however, videography is chargeable. 2-3 hours visit is sufficient to visit the complete complex.
How to Reach Humayun's, Tomb? It is centrally located and has good connectivity. One can take the DTC buses or can hire private taxis/auto. It has Nizamuddin Railway station of the Indian Railways nearby. Also, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Metro Station in Violet line Metro is only 2 Kms away.
