The world’s first boat powered completely by emission-free energy is about to make an historic trip around the world. The Energy Observer’s electric motors will be powered through a combination of solar, wind and stored hydrogen. The ship will also be the first to produce it’s own hydrogen from seawater using a process called electrolysis. Designed in 1983, it was originally a racing sailboat and is currently in a French shipping yard, where its green upgrade continues. It will start its six-year, 101-stop voyage around the world in February.
