The Oath Of Office Finally Went Smoothly, So There’s That

Going by recent history, it would have been prudent to bet against the presidential oath of office going smoothly at Donald Trump’s inauguration. As if the pressure of having thousands of people in the audience and millions more watching from afar wasn’t enough, Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts has been part of two imperfect oaths ceremonies already. In 2009, he botched the order of the words while going from memory. In 2013 Roberts took no chances and read the oath from a notecard, but it was President Barack Obama who tripped up, freezing in the middle of a sentence. So for his third inauguration, Roberts took no chances, and read slowly and clearly.
