SYRACUSE, NEW YORK — Passengers on board a public bus got the shock of their lives when a pickup truck wrecked its way through their ride.
On January 19, Neil Brownell, 82, and his wife were exiting the highway, when he suddenly swerved to the left lane to avoid traffic coming off the ramp. That move was enough for Brownell to lose control of the vehicle. He somehow ran off the road, over a grassy patch of land, and plowed right into and through a public bus stopped at a traffic light, its passengers caught completely off guard.
Inside the bus, most of the dozen riders instinctively got out of the way, but one man didn’t react in time and was thrown by the truck’s impact. He was injured, but it appears to have been just enough time for him to realize something bad was coming up behind him. Video from multiple angles was released by the Centro bus service.
Several passengers were taken to hospital for minor injuries, including the bus driver. The driver of the pickup truck, Neil Brownell, was not injured, but his wife was treated for chest pains.
