A heartwarming video has emerged from the US of a nineteen-year-old boy with Down's syndrome receiving a university acceptance letter.

The video, shot in Belvidere, Illinois on January 12, shows Carter, who was born with the disorder, reacting to the letter notifying him of his place at the University of Iowa.

The UI Reach Programme allows students with special needs to experience college life and attend classes to help them learn how to get a job and live independently.

"Carter had been insisting since he was a junior in high school that he was going to college but because of his disability we thought that dream would not come true for him," his mum, Becky wrote online.
