EN: Karateka is a 1984 martial arts action game by Jordan Mechner, and was his first published game, created while attending Yale University. It was originally programmed for the Apple II, then widely ported. The game was published in North America by Brøderbund, and in Europe by Ariolasoft. Along with Karate Champ (1984) and Yie-Ar Kung Fu (1985), Karateka established the basis of the modern fighting game.
FR: Karateka est un jeu vidéo de combat créé en 1984 par Jordan Mechner, le créateur de Prince of Persia (1989). Le jeu a initialement été développé sur Apple II et fut porté sur de nombreux supports.
Il s'agit du premier jeu de Mechner jamais édité. Il l'a développé alors qu'il était encore étudiant à l'Université Yale. Le jeu s'est fait remarquer par la presse spécialisée pour la grosseur des sprites et la fluidité de l'animation. Il se vend à plus de 500 000 exemplaires en 1984.
