A new Gallup poll shows that President-elect Donald Trump is heading into his inauguration with a record low approval rating for his transition thus far.
A new Gallup poll shows that President-elect Donald Trump is heading into his inauguration with a record low approval rating for his transition thus far.
Gallup reports that between January 4 through 8, 44 percent approved while 51 percent disapproved of the way he was handling his transition into office.
These numbers reflect a decline in attitude from about a month prior, when 48 percent of respondents equally approved and disapproved.
As a report about the data states, this rating from December 2016 “was already the lowest for any presidential transition Gallup has measured, starting with Bill Clinton's in 1992-1993.”
It goes on to add that “Trump's current rating only further separates him from his predecessors -- particularly Barack Obama, who earned 83% approval for his handling of the transition process in January 2009…”
Gallup points out that the president-elect’s declining approval numbers have been traced back to Democrats and Independents; Republicans, on the other hand, have remained consistently supportive.
Meanwhile, respondents indicated a mixed view on Trump’s cabinet appointments thus far--44 percent called them below average or poor while 32 percent said they were outstanding or above average.
The survey involved telephone interviews with 1,032 randomly sampled adults in the U.S.
