For many visitors to Saarland the view of the Saar loop remains unforgettable forever. Most people say afterwards that they have regretted not having seen them. From the viewpoint "Cloef" the small wonder of nature lies at the feet of the beholder. Likewise, the Saarschleife is also from the water or bank.

The Saar loop is a breakthrough of the Saar through the Taunusquarzit and is one of the most famous sights of the Saarland. The most popular view is the viewpoint Cloef, situated in the Mettlach district of Orscholz, 180 m high above the river. The bank is formed by rock walls, shelters and small ravines.
On the wooded Bergrücken within the Saar loop are the church of St. Gangolf with parts of the former monastery complex and the castle ruins Montclair.

The Saarschleife is regarded as the landmark of the Saarland. In the spotlight, she is always in the limelight when heads of state are there. Friedrich Wilhelm IV, King of Prussia, visited the viewpoint Cloef with a view of the Saarschleife on 29 September 1856. Adolf Hitler was on 16 May 1939 at this place. At that time, a memorial plate was installed, which was later removed. Oskar Lafontaine and Gerhard Schröder were photographed on the Cloef in front of the Saarschleife on 4 August 1997. The French President, Jacques Chirac, and then the late Polish President Lech Kaczyński, came to a tripartite summit with Chancellor Angela Merkel on 5 December 2006.
