Joe Dennis, of Charlotte, North Carolina, rescued a deer and took it home after he saw the yearling knocked down by a car on January 6.
Dennis said that he saw the car accident earlier in the day and went back later to check on it.
“There he was laying there about 4 ft from where I last seen him laying down, alive and looking around. He needed help and I knew at that moment I had to rescue him,” Dennis wrote on a Facebook post about the incident.
Dennis said he carried the yearling to the bed of his truck, where he made a bedding in his truck. “It was amazing he didn’t freak out or at least try to take off. He stood by me and bonded to me because he knew I was helping him and saving his life. He would have never made it had I not gone back to get him,” Dennis wrote.
Since the rescue, Dennis said that the deer had bonded with him and the yearling deserved second chance. Dennis said the deer had later been put down due to internal injuries. Credit: Facebook/Joe Dennis via Storyful
