Meaning: Tara is described as seated in the pratyalidha asana on the chest of a corpse stretched on a white lotus; she is supreme and laughing horribly; holding cleaver, blue lotus, dagger and bowl; uttering the mantra Hum. She is of deep blue color; her hair is braided with serpents, she is the Ugratara. Her tongue is always moving. Her forehead is decorated with ornaments made of bones. She bestows magical powers.


Second in Dus-Mahavidya, Bhagwati Tara is in the form of a million of sparkling light as Star, she lives in cremation ground, she is enriched with all sorts of knowledge, specially knowledge for Moksha or salvation.

She is the most benevolent mother who constantly liberates the distressed souls, wandering in many different Yonis or life forms.Tara is described as a giver of siddhis (supernatural powers), a rescuer from all troubles. Tara is a granter of all desires and rewards, including ultimate knowledge and moksha (salvation).
