House Republicans have decided to drop a proposal that would gut its independent ethics panel, multiple lawmakers told CNN. The decision comes after widespread criticism and tweets from Donald Trump attacking their plan. House Republicans voted 119-74 on the measure during a closed door meeting. Per the proposal, the independent Office of Congressional Ethics would be placed under the control of those same lawmakers.
