MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA — Australian law enforcement said Friday they stopped a terrorist bomb plot that targeted high profile locations and public places in in Melbourne.
According to the Herald-Sun, the plan included attacks on Flinders Street Station, St Paul’s Cathedral and Federation Square. It was believed to possibly be planned for Christmas Day.
Police also believe the Islamic State-linked suspects planned to use bombs, and firearms or knives, reported News.com.au.
Officials had reportedly been surveilling the suspects for weeks and carried out a series of raids across the city. Five men were arrested as a result, the BBC reported.
