Swiss police say a man who shot and injured three people at a mosque in Zurich on Monday has been found dead.

They said a body was discovered close to the scene and had been linked to the shooting. Reports say it was found under a bridge by a river a few hundred metres from the mosque.

No more details were given as to his identity or the circumstances surrounding his death.

Police had previously identified the suspect as a man aged around 30 wearing dark clothing and a woolen cap who fled the scene.

The gunman stormed into the Islamic centre and opened fire on worshippers in the late afternoon on Monday.

Two of the three victims were seriously injured in the attack, which took place near Zurich’s main train station.

Two of those shot are in their thirties, the other is said to be 56.

Swiss media say the mosque is attended by people from North Africa, Somalia and Eritrea.
