Michelle Obama has extended a helping hand to Melania Trump, offering to assist her in clearing the confusion that can come with White House life.
On Monday, during an interview segment released on 'CBS This Morning,' Michelle told Oprah Winfrey, “My offer to Melania was, you really don’t know what you don’t know until you’re here, so the door is open, as I’ve told her and as Laura Bush told me and other first ladies told me...We will do whatever they need to help them succeed.”
She further noted, “You know, you don’t have questions the day after the election. It’s just sort of like, you’re looking around the house and it is like, ‘What do you want to know?' And it’s like, ‘I don’t know what I should know.’"
In another segment from the same interview released earlier, the discussion took a more somber note after Winfrey asked Michelle, “Your husband’s administration…was all about hope. Do you think that this administration achieved that?”
The first lady responded, “Yes, I do. Because we feel the difference now. See now we are feeling what not having hope feels like, you know. Hope is necessary. It is a necessary concept. What do you give your kids if you can’t give them hope?”
ABC News reports that Donald Trump reacted to that statement during a Saturday night rally in Mobile, Alabama.
He said Michelle Obama, “must have been talking about the past" and proposed that, "she made that statement not meaning it the way it came out."
