"Kitchen" by Banana Yoshimoto was first published in Japanese language in 1988. It was translated into English in 1993. The novel is considered as a great example of contemporary Japanese literature.
After the publication of the novel, the reviews were highly positive, and most of the major newspapers in the United States critically acclaimed the book.
