A December 10 confrontation with a DUI suspect resulted in a member of Tucson, Arizona law enforcement losing an eye, reports KSAZ.
That night, authorities with the Pima County Sheriff’s Office arrested 28-year-old Yesennia Gonzalez on the belief that she was operating a vehicle while under the influence.
She was handcuffed and attempts were made to put her inside of a patrol car.
Gonzalez lashed out, kicking the people near her. KPNX reports that her boot heel made contact with Traffic Unit Sergeant Mark Bustamante’s eye.
He underwent surgery, but the damage was too extensive for doctors to repair. Bustamante will be fitted with a prosthetic.
Gonzalez has since been booked on DUI charges as well as resisting arrest and two counts of aggravated assault against law enforcement personnel.
Her bond has been set at $300,000.
