Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and a group of known executives are investing $1 billion to launch the Breakthrough Energy Ventures fund. Gates launched the fund on Monday along with entrepreneurs including Facebook head Mark Zuckerberg, Alibaba Chairman Jack Ma and Amazon.com chief Jeff Bezos. The fund intends to provide funds for energy research and reduce global greenhouse gas emissions. "We need affordable and reliable energy that doesn’t emit greenhouse gas to power the future and to get it," Gates told Quartz. The election has questioned the future of clean energy efforts, as President-elect Trump has previously referred to climate change as a "hoax."
