LAUDERHILL, FLORIDA — Yasmin Adam owned three pit bull mixes that she reportedly once said to a neighbour “don’t bite,” reported Broward and Palm Beach newspaper The Sun Sentinel. On Monday, at least one of them did just that — after it turned on her.

Police told The Sun Sentinel that Adam’s nephew came to her home at 5.p.m on Monday to find one of the dogs mauling her arms. He called 911 and told the operator “it’s killing her” and “it’s chewing her arms.” Audio of the call was posted to the newspaper’s website.

When police arrived, they say Yasmin was still being attacked. One officer whacked the canine with her baton but that didn’t stop it, so she tried pepper spray instead. That didn’t work, either.

Finally, the officer had to draw her weapon and shoot the animal to stop the attack.

Adam is recovering at a local hospital, where she underwent surgery for severe injuries to her arms.

The dog that was shot survived, but had to be put down due to the extent of its injuries. As for the other two canines, authorities say their fate is up to Yasmin.
