Crime comedy is a genre that hasn’t been explored much in Bollywood and yet, over the years, a few filmmakers have come up with such gems in this genre that they should be on your ‘must watch’ list, come what may…
Saat Uchakkey:
Manoj Bapayee, Kay Kay Menon, Vijay Raaz, Anupam Kher and others will come together for a whacky comedy named ‘Saat Uchakkey’ helmed by debut director Sanjeev Sharma. Shot entirely in Old Delhi, ‘Saat Uchakkey’ is a hilarious film about seven petty crooks, who join forces for a burglary in an eccentric man’s ancestral house. Bajpayee and Menon, who have mostly done serious and intense roles in the past, will be letting their hair down for a crazy comedy for the very first time and the trailer of the film has already made us eager to watch the film when it releases on October 14.
Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron
Kundan Shah’s satire, which boasted of a stellar cast comprising Naseeruddin Shah, Ravi Baswani, Om Puri, Pankaj Kapoor, Bhakti Barve and others, is still considered a cult classic. A tale revolving around two photographers, who stumble upon a criminal conspiracy and the hilarious consequences that arise, ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’ had some rib-tickling sequences (remember the Mahabharata scene towards the climax?), dark satire, some slapstick comedy and awesome performances.
Hera Pheri:
It would not be an exaggeration to say that this film made Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar the ‘go to’ guys for comic roles. The remake of a South film, Priyadarshan’s ‘Hera Pheri’, which had also starred Suniel Shetty, Tabu and Gulshan Grover, was about a landlord and his two tenants, who get involved in a kidnapping case due to a cross connection between two telephones. Till date, ‘Hera Pheri’ is remembered fondly because of Paresh Rawal’s lovably eccentric character Baburao Ganpatrao Apte and Akshay’s roguish character, Raju.
Khosla Ka Ghosla:
Dibakar Banerjee’s directorial debut about members of a middle-class Delhi family, who come up with an elaborate con to dupe a ruthless land-grabber, has achieved cult status over the years. Starring Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Ranvir Shorey, Navin Nischol and Vinay Pathak, ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’ is an all-time favourite of comedy lovers.
Delhi Belly:
Aamir Khan’s production venture ‘Delhi Belly’ is another crime comedy that can be watched multiple times. Starring Imran Khan, Vir Das, Kunaal Roy Kapur, Vijay Raaz and others, ‘Delhi Belly’ was a roller-coaster ride about three room-mates, a sinister gangster and a mysterious package that gets misplaced.
