Donald Trump's Friday conversation with President Tsai Ing-wen of Taiwan is believed to be the first discussion between a U.S. president-elect and Taiwan’s leader in decades. The conversation is sure to startle Beijing, which has historically attempted to block any attempt of U.S. diplomatic relations with the island off China’s coast. Trump's transition team didn't offer much insight into their discussion other than the topics on the table. During the discussion, they noted the close economic, political and security ties exists between Taiwan and the United States. President-elect Trump also congratulated President Tsai on becoming President of Taiwan earlier this year.
