Planned Parenthood filed lawsuits in North Carolina, Missouri and Alaska challenging laws and restrictions on abortion. In Missouri, it is required that doctors have admitting privileges in nearby hospitals. The state also requires abortion clinics to meet standards for surgical centers. In Alaska, abortion is banned in outpatient health centers after the first trimester of pregnancy. The organization is also fighting the North Carolina law which prevents doctors from performing abortions after the 20th week of pregnancy, only in the case of medical emergency.
