Ceremony held for Ashanti queen, who died aged 111

Traditional rulers in the Ashanti Kingdom of Ghana are gathered at the Manhyia Palace of the Asantehene in Kumasi to observe the death of the Queen of Ashanti. Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem was the mother of the current Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, and died aged 111. During her 39-year reign, the late queen was the chief advisor to two Ashanti kings. In accordance with Ashanti custom, there will be no drumming in the Ashanti kingdom until her burial.
