Movies of the 1940s: Invisible Ghost DVD with Bela Lugosi

Bela Lugosi, the Michael Jordan of B-Movie acting, stars in Invisible Ghost. Lugosi hams it up on camera as the deranged Mr. Kessler whose dead wife’s ghost hypnotizes Lugosi into committing a string of vicious murders! In this hilariously cheap horror film, the creaky old house that Lugosi tromps through with various weapons is the perfect setting for multiple gratuitous slayings that somehow seem more abundant than actors in the movie. What makes Invisible Ghost particularly entertaining, however, is the artful direction from Joseph H. Lewis who utilizes clever camera placement and movement to render the film a cut above other classic cheap horror. Lugosi is, as always, irresistibly schmaltzy and his tortured facial expressions and antics steal the show.
