Facebook has been testing a new feature for its Messenger app — public chat rooms, a bulletin board-style feature that lets people engage with those outside their Facebook “friends” on a dedicated topic.
While the service never really caught on, the social media giant appears to be giving it another shot as Messenger Rooms, with a new public trial launching in Canada and Australia for Android devices.
Every “Room” can focus on specific topics and can include both people friends and strangers.
Facebook said then Rooms was a small test, but offered no further comment.
