Democrat Kate Brown became the first openly LGBT governor to win election last night.
Gov. Brown, who is married to a man, identifies as bisexual.
Gov. Brown was actually the incumbent, having first been raised to the office in 2015 after then-Governor John Kitzhaber resigned after multiple scandals.
Though she is the first out person to be elected, she is not the first out person to serve, and former New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey came out while in office in 2004.
"You can't be what you can't see.
If I can be a role model for one young person that decides that their life is worth living because there's someone like them in the world, it's worth it."
