Samsung recalls millions of dangerous washing machines

Another blow for Samsung’s reputation; after the problems with some of its Note 7 smartphones catching fire it is now having to recall about 2.8 million top-loading washing machines in the United States.

That follows reports of injuries caused by the top of the machines coming loose and flying off if the high-speed spin cycle is used for washing bedding, water-resistant or bulky items.

The recall involves 34 models sold over the last five years.

The South Korean firm said it had received 733 reports of excessive vibration or the top detaching from machines and nine reports of injuries, including one person who suffered a broken jaw.
