Preorder OSMO here Peppa Pig and Thomas The Tank Engine are on a scavenger hunt. Play Doh, Letters ABC, Colours and objects are all collected to help them complete a series of puzzles. Madame Gazelle, Peppas teacher observes. A good fun educational video showing the new OSMO iPad apps (Words, Newton and Tangram) which work on their iPad base and mirror. These clever apps make learning fun and you can turn everyday real life objects into gameplay.\r

OSMO works by holding your iPad upright in its stand and by placing their clever mirror attachment over the iPad camera. Now anything real placed near the iPad is recognised allowing the 3 apps to work in different ways. Once downloaded the iPad no longer needs wifi so they are ideal puzzles to play on the go.\r

The Tangram app has an image on the screen which has to be copied by placing the coloured shapes in front of the iPad. The real benefit of this system is that the instant recognition gives immediate feedback to allow self-correction. There are 100s of tangrams.\r

The Words app objective is to guess the word at the bottom of the screen from the picture clue. You can race an opponent (red letters v blue letters) with points scored for your colour when the word is complete. This game can be fast with the system recognizing the letters at speed. Again there are 100s of words and many people can play at the same time or you can tell the app to combine the colours allowing it to be just one person, as we did for Peppa. The words get more difficult as you progress.\r

The Newton app is great. The objective is to get the falling balls to hit the stationary targets by using real objects from the real world placed in front of the iPad. Their image is projected on to the screen and act as barriers for the falling balls to bounce from. It also works by drawing on a piece of paper placed in front of the iPad. Its all a clever way of making real objects an interactive part of screen gameplay\r
