Bill Cosby’s lawyers are citing his failing vision as one of the reasons he is not able to defend himself against the sex-related criminal charges he is facing.
PEOPLE reports that it accessed the legal brief his team submitted to the court on Thursday.
The document reportedly included the question, “How can a 79-year-old blind man defend himself against a claim that he sexually assaulted someone he supposedly met once, half a century ago?”
It reportedly went on to state, “The answer is simple: He cannot, and the Commonwealth knows he cannot…Without his eyesight, Mr. Cosby cannot even determine whether he has ever even seen some of his accusers, let alone develop defenses and gather exculpatory evidence.”
Cosby is said to have registered as a legally blind person in Massachusetts, according to NBC News.
A Philly.com article notes, “Cosby is charged with three counts of aggravated indecent assault tied to [Andrea] Constand's claims that he drugged and assaulted her during a visit to his Cheltenham home in 2004.” He claims their sexual activity was consensual.
