Saudi Arabian officials announced the execution of a royal family member, an extremely rare occurrence in the country, reports CNN.
Prince Turki bin Saud bin Turki bin Saud al-Kabeer was put to death on Tuesday after being found guilty of fatally shooting a Saudi national. The prince and the victim are said to have been in the midst of a heated argument at the time of the murder.
The Independent notes that the family members of the deceased man were offered a financial incentive to drop their pursuit of the death penalty but declined.
It is unknown how the prince’s life was taken, but executions in Saudi Arabia are typically beheadings.
Also unclear is if the death sentence was carried out in a large public space, as is often done.
The last execution of a royal family member occurred in 1975 and was connected to the slaying of a king, notes the New York Times.
