DENPASAR, INDONESIA — At least eight people died and 30 more were injured when a bridge collapsed near the Indonesian resort island of Bali on Sunday.

The rickety yellow suspension bridge connected the small islands of Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan off Bali’s southeast coast.

The bridge was packed with motorbikes and people because of a Hindu ceremony at a nearby temple, BBC News reported.

The overloaded structure shook and collapsed, with some victims falling into the sea.

Although the water was only 2 meters deep, some victims were crushed by debris.

Earlier reports said nine people were killed, but officials revised the figure. Three children were reportedly among the dead.

It was not immediately clear if anyone was missing.
