SAUDI ARABIA — A teenager from Saudi Arabia has landed himself behind bars for flirting with the forbidden fruit. A series of video chats between the young man and a blonde girl from California have breached Sharia law and the country’s internet regulations.

For weeks, the Arabic-speaking teen known as Abu Sin had been video chatting with 21-year-old Christina Crockett. The two seemed to be having a good time getting to know each other, even though they didn’t speak the same language. In the videos, they would frequently tell each other “I love you” and exchange heart-shaped hand gestures.

Their bond caught the attention of the Internet when the video chats were re-posted to YouTube, but unfortunately for Abu Sin, the police were none too pleased. They arrested him for “unethical behaviour” claiming the “enticing” videos made Saudi Arabia look bad in the eyes of the world.

The 19-year-old was placed in jail for ten days, but has since been released on bond. On October 9, he made a video repenting for his sinful ways, but could still be facing a five-year prison sentence and a fine of $800,000.
