Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg recently sat down with Katie Couric of Yahoo News and, for a time, discussed Colin Kaepernick’s ongoing protest, in which the NFL player declines to stand for the national anthem.
While Ginsburg noted it was perfectly legal for him and others who have joined in to do so, she was quite clear that she does not approve.
Said Ginsburg, “I think it’s dumb and disrespectful. I would have the same answer if you asked me about flag burning. I think it’s a terrible thing to do, but I wouldn’t lock a person up for doing it. I would point out how ridiculous it seems to me to do such an act.”
Kaepernick’s protest began in August and is intended as a means of addressing racial injustice and police brutality in the United States.
