This is the Smog Free Tower, basically a giant air purifier, its creator, Dutch designer and environmentalist Daan Roosegaarde, believes it may just be the answer to Beijing's notorious pollution problem. He unveiled the Smog Free tower at the 798 Art Zone as part of Beijing Design Week on Thursday.

Inspired by ancient Chinese pagodas, the 20 foot tall Smog Free Tower is comprised of 45 silver plates, which resemble window blinders, and contains a large air-purifying device in the middle. The huge air purifier, powered by wind energy, continuously catches and stores pollutant particles from the air, allegedly cleaning over 1 million cubic feet of air per hour all while using as much electricity as it takes to warm a kettle.
