Hurricane Matthew: Jamaica and Haiti brace for 'life-threatening' storm

2016-10-03 46

A ferocious hurricane packing 130-mph winds is threatening to wreak havoc on Haiti and Jamaica as it trudges through the Caribbean Sea.
Major roads in Kingston, Jamaica quickly flooded on Sunday as the first bands of Hurricane Matthew lashed the Caribbean island.
"This rainfall will produce life-threatening flash floods and mudslides," the National Weather Service said Sunday.
A hurricane warning is in place for Haiti, which is expected to be more seriously affected.
A direct hit on Haiti could also be disastrous as much of the country's infrastructure remains weak after the 2010 earthquake that killed more than 200,000 people.
