Parts of Fayetteville are submerged in floodwaters on Wednesday (September 29) after heavy rains struck parts of North Carolina. A flash flood warning remains in place for Fayetteville until 10 am (1400gmt), according to the National Weather Service.

Heavy flooding shut down roads, forcing motorists to turn around and seek alternate routes.

Further north, floods completely washed out a park in Burlington, North Carolina.

Roads were closed and several weather-related accidents were reported, NBC said, citing local police.

Isolated thunderstorms are expected to bring damaging wind gusts and hail later this afternoon to the region, along with a chance of more flash floods, the National Weather service reported.
