"Belenggu" by Armjin Pane was first published in 1940. It is an Indonesian novel. It got translated into English as "Shackles." It happens to be the first Indonesian psychological novel.
The author has used the technique of stream of consciousness and ellipses and monologues to show internal struggle. The earlier Indonesian novels were not like that.
