Recorded between March and September 1981, Dare was released October 16,1981. Produced by Martin Rushent, the third album from The Human League is the first in a new musical direction into a more commercially friendly pop sound from remaining members Philip Oakey and Adrian Wright, who recruited backing vocalists Joanne Catherall, Susan Ann Sulley as well as guitarists Jo Callis and Ian Burden after the 1980 departure of Martin Ware and Ian Craig Marsh to form the band Heaven 17. Considered by many to be a masterpiece and included on numerous top 100 albums of all time, Dare has been certified double platinum in the U.K, Platinum in Canada and Gold in the U.S.
