On July 10th, 2016 the community of Santa Elena of La Paz in Honduras, held a communitarian referendum and decided to stop a hydroelectric project that would affect their river and environment. the referendum and decision was made following the International Labor Organization Convention, No. 169 which guarantees the right of indigenous people to be consulted before any construction in their territories. Now other communities are trying to do the same. Our Correspondent, Gerardo Torres with the story.
