LAS CRUCES (KRQE) – Two officers accused of using so much force on a man in a holding cell that he ended up in ICU have been terminated from the Las Cruces Police Department.
LCPD said Officers Richard P. Garcia and Danny Salcido were terminated Tuesday after an internal investigation of the December 2014 incident.
Ross Flynn was arrested back in December for allegedly pointing a rifle at his neighbor over a parking space and then ignoring the officer’s commands at the scene. Surveillance video from Flynn’s holding cell shows Officers Garcia and Salcido using force on Flynn while he was handcuffed. Flynn was later hospitalized with a skull fracture.
Both officers were placed on administrative leave following the incident.
Flynn’s attorneys sent notice to the City of Las Cruces that they intend to sue. They’re asking for $12.5 million.
Garcia has been with LCPD since August 2004 and Salcido since 2011.
