Severe flooding in Louisiana has claimed a third life.

Roads resemble rivers in the US state after heavy rains unleashed unprecedented torrents of water.

More than a thousand people have been evacuated from their homes so far.

Amid the chaos and confusion, video has emerged of a dramatic rescue of a woman and her dog in Baton Rouge.

They were pulled out of a car as floodwaters swallowed the vehicle.

The woman, who was not immediately visible, could be heard shouting from inside the car “Oh my God, I’m drowning.”

One of the rescuers, later identified as David Phung, jumped into the water and pulled the woman from the car – before plucking her dog to safety too.

The video has gone viral.
