Traffic accident kills 9, injures 27 in east China

Nine people were killed and 27 others injured when a coach collided with a truck in east China's Shandong Province on Friday afternoon, local police said.

Following tire blow-out, the truck hit a barrier and crashed into an oncoming coach, causing it to overturn at around 13:30 on the Jinan-Liaocheng expressway, according to Liaocheng City police.

The 49-seat coach was carrying 48 passengers at the time of the collision. Five were declared dead on the spot while four more died on the way to hospital.

All the other injured are in stable condition.

The traffic on the expressway has resumed.
