RIO DE JANEIRO — A diplomat working for the Russian consulate in Rio de Janeiro shot and killed a mugger who tried to rob him at gunpoint on Thursday.

According to the Australian, Marcos Cesar Feres Braga was stuck in traffic during the Olympic torch relay when his BMW was targeted by two men on a motorbike. Braga was with his wife and daughter inside the vehicle at the time.

One of the men broke the car’s window with a revolver and demanded the driver’s watch.

Instead of handing over the item, the diplomat grabbed the assailant and pulled him into the car. He then used the attacker’s own gun to shoot him in the head.

The mugger’s dead body was reportedly left on the scene for several hours, reports the Telegraph. The other man fled the scene after seeing his partner killed.

Braga is reportedly a Brazilian lawyer in his 60s who works for the Russian consulate in Rio as its vice-consul.
