Reagan shooter John W. Hinckley Jr. to be released after 35 years

July 27, 2016 – WASHINGTON – After more than 35 years in a psychiatric hospital, John W. Hinckley Jr. – who attempted to assassinate President Ronald Reagan – will walk free.
A federal judge ruled Wednesday he is no longer a danger to himself or others.

The 61-year-old will be released as soon as August 5 to his mother in Virginia with a number of monitoring requirements.
