Alexander Tcherepnin belonged to the Russian diaspora following the Revolution of 1917. He carried out his musical education in Moscow, Tbilisi and Paris, absorbing romanticism, folklorism and modernism as his musical influences, and thus he became a cosmopolitan composer. His Third Concerto belongs to his “folklorist” phase that begun around the 1930’s as Tcherepnin travelled around the world. This particular concerto was inspired after an Egyptian boatmen song he listened while travelling up the Nile River.
Alexander Tcherepnin perteneció a la diáspora rusa que siguió a la revolución de 1917, desarrollando su educación musical en Moscú, Tiflis y París. Así, el absorbió el romanticismo, el folclorismo y el modernismo como sus influencias musicales, convirtiéndose en un compositor cosmopolita. Su tercer concierto pertenece a su fase folclorista que comenzó en los años 30 mientras Tcherepnin viajaba alrededor del mundo. Este concierto en particular fue inspirado por un canto de remeros egipcios que escuchó al viajar por el Río Nilo.
