Early Tuesday morning, at least two domestic dogs found their way inside the Baton Rouge Zoo in Louisiana and claimed the lives of three monkeys, reports The Advocate.
Officials are still unsure of exactly what happened, but have been able to get a rough idea by watching the surveillance footage.
It is believed that the spot-nosed guenon monkeys were grabbed by the dogs when reaching out of their exhibit.
By the time zoo workers arrived in the morning, two of the three primates were deceased and the third was euthanized due to severe injuries.
Their ages were 29, 22, and 18.
The canines remain at large, but staff is actively searching for them.
They are also working to find their point of entry into the zoo, notes WBRZ.
