Pro-khalistanis using social media as tool to delude youth

Punjab, July 14 (ANI): After failing to delude the people of Punjab in support of Khalistan, a separate Sikh state, the pro-Khalistan machinery is now spreading misinformation on social media. They are using Twitter, Facebook and other social media aggregators to misinform the youth. Since the elections in Punjab are round the corner, experts hold responsible the Khalistani separatists for making attempts to create an atmosphere of uncertainty and disrupt the peace. Several pro-Khalistan organizations are still based in the United States, Canada and other western countries. They enjoy the patronage of Pakistan’s inter-services intelligence (ISI) and continue to pursue their so-called “Sikh Agenda” clandestinely. It is believed that use of social media is part of their new propaganda strategy to misinform the Sikhs. Punjab has already suffered due to prolonged insurgency in the 1980s and early 1990s. It claimed some 12,000 lives and affected the state’s development. The movement fizzled out after 1995, but some separatist leaders based abroad are continuously making efforts to create disturbance in Punjab.
